I am not a professional, nor do I earn much money from my photography, I am what you would could an obsessed photographer! For me it’s not about the money, or recognition, it’s about chasing that elusive “perfect” shot!
And that feeling you get when you know you got a great shot….Priceless!
People write about the famous photographers that inspired them etc, but I didn’t have that sort of inspiration. I was your typical crazy relative that always had a camera in hand and shouting “smile” at everyone until they wanted to punch me! I never gave any thought to composition, light, depth of field or that weird thing ‘rule of thirds’. I was happy to get a passable shot to remember the occasion and throw it in the album.
It all changed with that cliched ‘life changing moment’. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis! I thought my life was doomed, and driving to work one morning I was feeling pretty darn miserable and sorry for myself. I stopped the car to pull myself together and saw the most gorgeous light coming through a tree. I picked up my camera and snapped it and then went on my way. Seeing the image on screen made me wonder how I could have captured the shot better, would getting off Auto give me a better image? Below is the shot that started my journey into this wonderful world of a photographer, not just a happy snapper!
I do have to give a shout out to two people who helped me on my way, who encouraged me and taught me so many things about the many different aspects of photography. So, I suppose you could say, these two guys are my inspiration. Andrew Halsall and Leigh Diprose. You should take a little time to check out their work, it is awesome.
Okay, if you have read this far, I thank you for taking the time! I love looking at other photographers work, and would love to see what you have been shooting. So drop me a message or link and I’ll check you out.
